Sales of luxury items, including fine art and wine, are up, according to the Chairman and President of Christie's Americas, Marc Porter. In an interview on Bloomberg TV, Mr. Porter confirmed that Christie's global art sales topped $3.2 billion for the first quarter of 2011 and overall sales are up 10% over last year. But perhaps the most anticipated sale will occur in December, when Christie's will auction off Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry, including her 33 carat D color "perfect diamond", couture clothing, works of art and memorabilia. According to Mr. Porter, there will be items for sale at all price points, and at least half of the auction will be held online only. As I've mentioned before, my birthday is in December.
