The drama surrounding Michael Jackson's estate continued this week as news broke that Michael's mother, Katherine Jackson, who has been the court-appointed guardian of Michael's three minor children, Michael Joseph "Prince" Jackson, Jr., Paris Katherine Michael Jackson, and Prince Michael "Blanket" Jackson II, since the singer's death back in June 2009, has been in Arizona since July 15 and has not had any contact with her grandchildren. With the rumors flying that Katherine Jackson is being held in Arizona against her will, yesterday TJ Jackson, the son of Michael's brother, Tito, sought temporary custody of his cousins in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted TJ's request to become the children's temporary guardian in place of Katherine Jackson, stating: "The allegation is she's (Katherine's) being prevented from communicating with the kids by a third party. Katherine Jackson is unable to act based on the acts of third parties. This is not a move by (TJ) Jackson to oust Mrs. Jackson from her position." The judge went on to say that he had no reason to believe that Katherine Jackson had done anything wrong and would reinstate her as the children's permanent guardian once she returned to California. The order appointing TJ Jackson as temporary guardian expires on August 22, 2012.
Meanwhile, in the after math of the July 17 letter sent by five of Michael's siblings - Rebbie, Tito, Jermaine, Randy, and Janet - to John Branca and John McClain, the co-executors of Michael's estate, in which the siblings accused Branca and McClain of taking advantage of Katherine Jackson and completely mismanaging their "beloved" brother's estate, Tito Jackson released a statement on Tuesday in which he said that he no longer supports the letter. Just another example, all be it on a grand scale, of what happens when death, money and family mix.
